PERA
This reflection highlights the PERA project I completed in TEL 6300: Teaching Reading in a Diverse Society during my TESOL master’s program. The project challenged me to critically examine gaps in cultural representation at my school and to create a concrete, equity-focused action plan. Through this experience, I gained the confidence and skills to move from critique to meaningful change. This project continues to shape my commitment to inclusive teaching and school-wide transformation.

Analysis and Modificaction of Materials

This reflection focuses on a project I completed in TEL 6210: ESL Teaching Methods with Professor Robert Randez, where I analyzed and modified a phonics lesson to better support multilingual learners. The assignment was a pivotal moment that showed me I have both the agency and responsibility to adapt curriculum to meet my students’ needs. By integrating research-based strategies from the SIOP model and second language acquisition theory, I enhanced accessibility and engagement in my classroom. This project, paired with my PERA project, helped shape the foundation of my TESOL capstone and affirmed my belief that when existing materials fall short, teachers can—and should—build better ones.
Capstone Project
This capstone project focuses on designing accessible, inclusive math assessments for 1st and 2nd grade students, particularly multilingual learners, at Ann Arbor Open. By simplifying language, incorporating visuals, and collaborating with students and colleagues, the project aims to reduce linguistic barriers and better reflect students' true mathematical understanding. Grounded in research and classroom practice, these tools support more equitable and meaningful assessment across diverse learning needs.
