About Me.

I grew up in Ypsilanti and attended a magnet charter school, Ann Arbor Learning Community from 1st through 4th grade, followed by Pattengill Elementary and Tappan Middle School before graduating from Community High School in 2011. After high school, I attended Washtenaw Community College while deciding on a career path. Once I chose to become a teacher, I transferred to Eastern Michigan University.

Completed coursework in child development, instructional strategies, assessment, and literacy education. Gained classroom experience through student teaching and field placements. Specialized training in reading instruction, including phonics, fluency, comprehension, and intervention strategies to support struggling readers.

LETRS Trained

2021 - 2023

Language Essentials for teaching of Reading and Spelling

Completed LETRS professional development, focusing on the science of reading. Gained in-depth knowledge of phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and the structure of language. Developed skills to assess and support diverse learners, including those with reading difficulties and dyslexia.

AddVantage Math Recovery

Completed Add+Vantage Math Recovery (AVMR) professional development focused on early numeracy. Gained expertise in identifying students’ developmental levels in number sense, addition and subtraction strategies, and place value. Trained to use diagnostic interviews and targeted instruction to support differentiated math teaching and accelerate student growth.

MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

2023 - 2025

Western Michigan University

Earned a Master’s in TESOL with a focus on second language acquisition, linguistics, and effective instructional strategies for English learners. Gained specialized training in the SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) Model to support academic language development through content-based instruction. Studied and applied Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) to design meaningful, real-world learning experiences. Developed skills in curriculum design, language assessment, and culturally responsive teaching, with practicum experience in K–12 multilingual settings.
